Significance of Climate Quest
In the contemporary world the fossil fuels provide much of our energy, and in burning them we are liberating dangerous amounts of greenhouse gas to the atmosphere which is causing global warming and eventually climate change. There is now near universal agreement that this must be severely curtailed within the next few decades, otherwise our planet will experience dangerous consequences. This is both a threat and an opportunity, and because the changes to come in the next half-century will be profound, they are particularly relevant to younger people.
Global Warming is already having significant and harmful effects on our communities, our health, and our climate. The prevailing smog in most parts of Pakistan (and other Asian countries) at the rise of winter season is one of the alarming sign of Climate Change. The recent hurricanes like Harvey in Texas and tropical storms as in Pak-India subcontinent are simply the wakeup calls, as, more severe droughts are occurring in different parts of the world. The number of large wildfires is growing and dangerous heat waves are becoming more common.
The good news is that we have the practical solutions at hand to dramatically reduce our carbon emissions, slow the pace of global warming, and pass on a healthier, safer world to future generations. However, it is really significant to take immediate action to address Global Warming or these consequences will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly, and increasingly affect the entire planet. For these reasons, we feel strongly that all Pakistanis, especially the young ones and their families, should be given chance to understand climate change as soon as possible.
Climate Quest – the Activity
Climate Quest proved to be a valuable green activity for schools’ students from preschool to 12th grade with its aim to educate our society about the consequences of Climate Change and to inspire all societal segments for a collective action. Climate Quest was really an inspiring activity offering a mix of MCQs, Creative Writing and Climate Puzzle Games with its enormous capacity to educate Green Angels and their families about Climate Change and to inspire them for bringing Green Living to their lifestyles. In making the activity even more inspiring GLA announced a wide range of prizes and awards for the participants.
Today, we are celebrating the success of extending the useful information about Climate Change to thousands of Pakistani families in your Green Partnership. It’s not about the prizes and rewards, as, these are the minor part of the campaign which we are running to beautify our beloved homeland and wonderful planet – the greatest of all objectives.
We thank all of our Green Partners; the schools’ directors, administrators, the teachers, dear Green Angels and obviously the parents – for helping make Climate Quest a mega success in extending awareness to combat Climate Change appearing as the consequence of global warming. Global warming, which is a gradual rising of Earth’s temperature, is different from all threats to our world, representing a scale of threat greater than anything humans have faced in recent history. No doubt, our responsible and timely approach could save our planet from the serious impacts of Global Warming in giving humans healthier lives and in saving many species from extinction.
Due to space limits here you can find the names of only few National Winners. Besides these winners are dozens of more national winners, town winners and the campus winners to achieve prizes and appreciation documents. And every one of you – the Green Angels – is going to attain an Appreciation Certificates to recognize your wonderful participation. During the next few days we are going to complete the process of informing every participating campus by email about your results and prizes.
As a matter of appreciation, GLA has decided to present certificates to all Green Angels who submitted their registration to ‘Climate Quest’ regardless of their submission of the filled worksheets back.
We have arranged to send all prizes to the respective campuses before the start of February 2018.
